Co-Q10: The Cardiac Energizer

Co-enzyme is an organic, non-protein molecule that is needed for the proper functioning of an enzyme in the body.
Co-enzyme Q10 (or Co0Q10), also known as ubiquinone, is used by cells to produce energy through a process called cell respiration. Energy produced through this process helps cell growth and maintenance.
The body also uses Co-Q10 as an antioxidant.
An antioxidant is a substance that protects cells from highly reactive chemicals that are capable of damaging important components such as DNA and lipids.
Co-Q10 is present in the highest concentration in the heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas. However, the level of Co-Q10 decreases as people age, making supplementation a viable alternative to prevent Co-Q10 deficiency.
Studies conducted on patients with congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions have shown that Co-Q10 supplementation helps strengthen the heart muscle and may help stabilize many important cardiovascular problems.
Given its potent antioxidant properties, Co-Q10 has also been studied as a possible treatment for cancer but there is no conclusive evidence as to its effectiveness.
Other possible health benefits from Co-Q10 supplementation include:
- Management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Helps increase stamina and endurance
